Celebration Days

There are so many whisk(e)y days or events, it’s tough to keep track. Here is a short list of fun events I like to recognize and raise a dram to!

Robert Burns Day / Night

Date: January 25

Celebrated on the birthday of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet. January 25th is a great night to enjoy some traditinal Scotish food and of course, Scotch! While he certainly wrote many famous poems and songs, the one most of us know is Auld Lang Syne, which I certainly try to sing at the stroke of Midnight each year. What is your favourite Scotch to toast the Bard with?

International Scotch Day

Date: February 8

Started by Diageo, so really a marketing day. Still, it is celebrated by many in the community and certainly worth pouring a dram and sharing some good will with your friends and neighbours.

Canadian Whisky Week

Date: 3rd Week of January

Canadian Whisky Week is an annual celebration held during the third week of January, dedicated to honouring Canada’s iconic spirit. This special week invites whisky enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike to savour a dram and celebrate the rich heritage of Canadian whisky.

International Whisk(e)y Day

Date: March 27

In honour of Michael Jackson, one of the best drinks writers of all time. This day seems to resonate with and connect brand ambasidors, whisky writers and people who just enjoy talking about whisk(e)y with anyone who will listen!

World Whisky Day

Date: Third Saturday of May

Started by Blair Bowman when he was at the University of Alberdeen. The idea is to enjoy whisky of any kind and however you like. Over the years it has really gained some steam, which is really cool!

Ardbeg Day

Date: First Saturday of June

Yes another marketing day, but this one has always been fun. In my area they sponser an event every year and it seems to be not to serious and, well, Arbeg makes good Scotch.

National Bourbon Day

Date: July 14

I am not sure how this one started. It could be marketing, as most of these Celebration days seem to be. Still, it is the day recognized in America, home of Bourbon so, I’m happy to raise a glass of Bourbon and Cheers friends, family and neighbours.

National Scotch Day

Date: July 27

Of all the days on this list, this day has the least amount of information Online. Since there is an International Scotch day, I’m not sure the purpose of this one. Still, it’s on the calendar and always a good time to celebrate Scotch! Most website here seem to indicate this is an American day.
